This is a traditional Belarussian paper cut-out. It presents a flower bouquet in a vase, on a decorative table. The bouquet is circle-shaped, resembling traditional round paper-cut-outs. The precision of cut-out is worth a closer look. The effect is complemented by an interesting well-matched colour scheme – a paper cut-out in the colour of deep-red against a light grey background which allows to bring out the beautiful features of the pattern.
Special attention should be drawn to a very elaborate and artistic paper cut-out frame which was individually chosen by a professional framing studio.
The frame is made from wood in silver colour. A double passé-partout was used to enrich the composition in the effect of profundity. A pane protects the paper cut-out against destruction. The frame is equipped with a loop which enables it to be hung.
The paper cut-outs has been present in Belarussian tradition for many ages. According to an old custom, on the occasion of the religious celebrations: Christmas and Easter, special-event paper cut-outs had been made to decorate interiors. Women used to cut out “curtains”, to frame a saint’ paintings with paper decorations or to prepare lace serviette for windowsills, shelves and wooden ceiling beams. The paper cut-outs had been afterworlds fired to replace them next year with new ones, more beautiful decorations.
Apart from paper cut-outs depicting religious celebrations, in western part of Belarusse paper decorations presenting scenes from every-day countryside life: haymaking, harvest, household were popular. In recent years, the renaissance of paper cut-outs tradition has been observed. The Paper-cut-out school was established in Mołodecznie 10 years ago.
The graduates contribute to popularization of Belarussian tradition and culture worldwide.
