The cradle of the Maków embroidery is Silesian Beskids, and in particular, the neighbourhood of Maków Podhalański. That is where the name of this embroidery pattern originates from. The Maków embroidery patterns appear to be the most elegant patterns characterized by classical beauty, simplicity and extraordinary subtlety. It is traditionally made with white thread (embroidery floss) on white linen, Therefore it is classified as white embroidery. However, some compositions have different linen or thread colour for the sake of variety.
The Maków embroidery is a flat pattern with perforated elements. There is no play on colours that is so typical of other regional embroidery patterns. Therefore the form is especially well-elaborated. This embroidery pattern is especially recognized for its unique elegance.
